摘要
In the era of big data, the secondary use of claims databases to conduct epidemiological studies, comparative effective research, and active pharmacovigilance has increased dramatically. I will discuss the several example to address clinical questions using pharmacoepidemiological approaches. Comparative effectiveness research is common topic using big data to compares the benefits and harms of alternative drug or procedures. In addition, I will share my experience to develop machine learning-based individualized treatment prediction model using big data.
However, there are several limitations for big data research. Important information, such as symptom profiles, disease severity, and laboratory or image findings, are not available in most claims databases. Unmeasured confounders could be controlled by several methods. One of these methods is linked to different database. I will share the experience using electronic health records (EHRs) and nationwide surveys.
